Six ideas for recycling your perfect Christmas Tree

After the Christmas season has passed, the job of disrobing your Crimbo Tree of its trimmings must be done. Before you follow this unfortunate holiday tradition, here are a few ways to recycle your Christmas tree, giving new life to both it and your New Year’s resolution to live lighter on our planet…

  • Edinburgh District Council will collect your Christmas tree and it will be used as mulch for plants in local parks and gardens. Recycle your Christmas tree by cutting up your tree after removing the base and decorations then place it inside your brown bin.placing it on the kerbside on your scheduled brown bin day.
  • You can also take Christmas trees to any of the Community Recycling Centres in Edinburgh
  • You can chop the trunk into logs and burn them in your fireplace or even better your BBQ this summer! Be careful if you chose to burn the branches since they can send off sparks.
  • You can burn the branches and spread the ashes in your garden. The branches contain valuable nutrients and minerals that can enrich the soil and help yield better flowers and vegetables.
  • You can recycle the trunk and split into sections to section off areas of your garden or pathways…

All in all a real Christmas tree is the best Christmas tree. Nothing beats the smell and texture of a real Christmas tree and if you can recycle it too we shall be helping our planet to breathe a little more easily…
