How to Keep Christmas Cheer Throughout the Year

Children keep Christmas cheer throughout the year

We wish it could be Christmas, every day. That goes without saying. Although we might run a little low on our real Scottish Christmas trees, right enough.

But with spring just around the corner, how are we to keep the spirit of Christmas alive ‘til that joyous yuletide rolls around again?

We’re all for the ‘season of goodwill’ but shouldn’t we be encouraging the same sentiment, all year round? We certainly think so! And without further ado, here are our top tips for keeping up your Christmas cheer throughout the year.

Our Tips for Keeping Christmas Cheer Throughout The Year

Schedule In Family Time

Time and time again, we hear of families who only get together at Christmas time. Granted, you might not be ready to endure Uncle Albert’s latest ‘new’ tale from the trenches just yet (I mean, it’s barely been 8 weeks!) but making time for loved ones throughout the year is definitely up there, for us.

These days, it’s less common for families to get together for a weekly Sunday roast but why not arrange a family meal once a month? And you don’t even have to cook! Drop a few casual hints to your mum and hey-presto, your weekly roast is in the bag. You could always bring the Vienetta, though.

Volunteer In Your Community

At Christmas time, local food banks and homeless shelters can be overrun with spirited volunteers. But come dreary January numbers often dwindle and sadly these charity organisations can struggle throughout the year.

Why not take a look at your weekly shop and see where you could afford to donate to your local food bank? Most large supermarkets have a collection point right after the checkout. If you have time to spare, try giving your local charities a call to see when they need volunteers.

There’s something for everyone – from mucking in at your local Maggie’s centre to mucking out at the Riding for the Disabled.

Replant Your Scottish Christmas Tree

If you read our post on sustainable ways to dispose of your old Christmas tree, you’ll know which one we’re barking up.

Take proper care of your real Christmas tree during the festive season and it can be re-planted outside in the garden, ready to be brought in again next year. Refreshed and revitalised! How’s that for sustainable Christmas spirit? You’ll be doing your bit for the environment, starting a new family tradition and you’ll get a top up of Christmas cheer every time you look outside.

Did you know that with your help, we raised £3000.00 for Maggie’s Edinburgh in 2017? A big thank you to everyone who bought a Scottish Christmas tree from us or a ticket for the raffle – you helped make this all possible!
